Darkly Dreaming Dexter Pt. 3

There are some few subplots in the book, some who takes more space and some who takes up less. The biggest one is about Dexters sister, Daborah Morgan. She is also a cop, working at the same station. But she's not working with the blood analyzes as Dexter. I'm not really sure what she is doing exactly but she's working undercover as a prostitute and she does not like it. She wants to be promoted to the homicide section, where Dexter works as a blood splatter analyzer. So she asks Dexter for help, because he's famous for getting hunches about the who the killer is. (He knows how killers think because he's one himself, he explains) Of course Daborah have no clue about that.

The second biggest subplot is the girl Dexter is dating, Rita Bennett. Usually Dexter Morgan can't have relationships because then he would have to act "human" all the time. He doesn't see himself as a human but as a monster. The good kind of monster. His reason for dating her is to seem normal to other people. She's like a cape. He doesn't want anyone to think he's different. As far as i have read there's only one person who suspects something.

Anyways, why Dexter can date Rita is because she is, as he says "as damage as i am". (When i read that i recognized it because that exact line is in the TV-series.) The damage Dexter is talking about is from a former relationship which Rita had two children in. Her formerly husband raped her, and in the end he even attacked the kids. He even likes the kids because they have had a rough childhood, just like himself. Rita and Dexter have been dating for 6 months but as far as i have read i have only tagged along on one date which ended bad. But I'll guess I will find out what happens further along in the book.

Good job finding the complexity with having different personalities and how it affects the surrounding environment and the relationship with people around you. Keep up the good work!
